This latest nonsense with a false positive detection that causes damage to the operating system is the last straw for me. I have had continuing problems with CA AntiVirus crashing during email downloads with Thunderbirds. CA's solution "don't use Thunderbird, we only work with Outlook." Now they suggest "don't use your machine" until the problem is fixed.
I am changing to Sophos. So far, it works fine and no false positives. Now the bigger challenge. Cancelling continuous protection is nearly impossible. I tried my activation keys, etc., no go. I can't find a user or der number (I bought the stuff several years ago). So if charged, I will refuse payment through my credit card company. I guess CA has gotten too big and forgotten that customer service is an an important part of doing business. |

You can cancel this by either going to 'My Account' on the CA website: http://shop.ca.com/ and then cancelling the continuous protection there or you can contact customer support and ask them to remove this for you. They can be contacted here: http://cainternetsecurity.net/Suppor....aspx?tabid=84
Be advised that many software providers release updates etc that can have the same effect as what you have just experianced here with CA.

Well, at the risk of adding fuel to the fire, I have to agree that this situation is trying my patience. I know that other programs (and not only anti-virus) have problems too, but it is in how they are handled that makes or breaks the company. I am in agreement that this has not been handled well by CA.
I operate out of a home office so consequently, I am chief cook and bottle washer, not to mention MIT. And I will be the first to admit that, not only do I NOT have the experience to be the IT guy, I have no desire to be either. I just need things to work. So far I have lost most of the morning to this issue and I am lucky, because I have a back-up computer. What about the people that don't? Anyway, I have had no end of issues with my computers over the last couple of years. Between software problems, viruses and hard drive crashes, I have a lot more gray hair today than I did 2 years ago. I'm thinking of becoming a Luddite!

I fully agree that it has been far from handled correctly by CA but this is nothing unusual as it has been mentioned on earlier issues too. Other than this, it's us, the user that have to fill in and provide the support that CA neglects often.
