I have Windows XP and this problem started this morning. When I boot up the computer, I get a series of message boxes saying "CA Personal Firewall application has encountered a problem and needs to close," then the same message appears for CA Common Tray, and CA AntiVirus Realtime Infection Report. The CA security center icon never appears in the bottom tray. If I try to update through the Startup menu, I get a message that ccupdate.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. I've tried restarting the computer several times; the same always happens. The Windows Security Center says that the firewall and AV are operating, but I don't know if that's true.

I had this same problem several weeks ago following a CA general system upgrade but it resolved after a day or so. I'm pretty computer illiterate, which isn't helping any. Help!

Try the following link and see if it works after getting a new update.
http://homeofficekb.ca.com/CIDocument.asp?KDId=3097&Preview=0&Return=0&GUID=878689386E104D22BB74FFF3C9812585

Try the following link to restore CA icon on the bottom right hand side.

let me if it solved the problem.

Thanks for your reply, jjj. When I booted the computer yesterday morning, ISS loaded and updated properly, at least as far as I can tell. If this happens again, I will try to follow your instructions. When I had this problem a few weeks ago, it was intermittent and occured a few times, then seemed okay for several weeks. I haven't rebooted since yesterday, so don't know if it's "fixed" for good. Thanks again.
