Spybot has shown Virtumonde virus on my machine, but 18 hours later VET is still scanning the one and only 40 gig HDD

Is this a typical time for scanning? I was thinking it might take approx 60 - 90 minutes but man, this is ridiculous.

You might want to try running the scan in the safe mode and check if this makes any difference

No, it's still scanning

Started the scan on Wednesday 27th May at 1100 ... 29th May at 0930 and it's still scanning.

I tried scanning in safe mode, but it was just as slow.

Hi eckeng,

I'd really suggest you to contact CA tech support. It seems that the AV keeps scanning and having problems removing that virus. so you need help to remove it manually..

cheers!

It has discovered Win32/Chisyne.HI so perhaps that's what the problem is.

Best bet is that is going to be a blast to remove

Win32.Chisyne is a family of trojans that download and execute arbitrary files. One of its most common mechanisms is to download variants of the Win32.Vundo family. This trojan was originally identified by CA. Click on this link for a detailed description and removal instructions.

I upgraded my virus checker on 29/5 and it has been scanning my system for 40 hours so far (it has checked about 330000 files, but I have over 500,000). Before the upgrade it took about 1 1/2 hours (I have had CA, earlier Vet, for many years). I have 80 GB HDD (not even half full), 1.536 RAM and I am running Windows XP. You are not the only one with a problem, I think there is something wrong. My virus checker is not stuck in any loop and it is steadily, but slowly progressing. Tiredscanner
